1950’sukulele Late 1950’sukulele cleaned and refurbished by myself. It looks like a harmony but has no harmony decal remaining. It has the latest, innovative (for the time) plastic fretboard, designedto give accurate fretting with durability and economy. It waspurchased with a period case which I wanted for my antique uke, and which Ishall be retaining. I was informed thatit had been in the family in the case prior to 1960. It was in a sad state whenit came as it was cracked and had a separation between the back and each side. Idecided that it was worth saving and cleaned it and repaired it. The cracks and separations have been closedand cleated and are now stable,. The surfacewas lightly sanded to take away marks and blemishes and the sheen restored. Theresult was very pleasing other than some dishing remains to the table aroundthe soundhole. The instrument has beenfitted with aquilas strings and now sounds good, highly evocative of thatperiod. Theconstruction is solid wood, light in colour, possibly maple, light sunbursteffect, satin finish, new black friction tuners.
