Lux-Namel Reverse Light Up Painted Glass Advertising SignThe "Lux-Namel" name was trade mark registered by Elliot's Paints and Varnishes in 1957. The registration was renewed in 1976 and lapsed in 1997. Judging from the materials used to construct this sign, it probably dates from the 1957-65 time frame. The reverse painted glass panel is mounted with a decorative, striped metal frame to a sheet metal (tin) light box that contains one porcelain socket for an incandescent light bulb. The wiring is very frayed and I did not plug in the sign because of the wiring's condition. It would be a simple job to rewire the sign. Currently it does not have a switch. Marks; There is no makers label. Condition: Shows well. The painted finish on the exterior of the light box is spotted, wear to the finish is along the soldered seams, the exposed metal in these areas has light rust. The interior of the light box is clean. As mentioned, the wiring is frayed and must be replaced for safe use. The silver tone frame has darkened. The reverse painted panel shows no losses but there are two areas where the paint is lifting, in concentrated dots around the block "L" of Lux and in 3 curved, vertical lines near the cursive "L" of lasting.
