This is a late 1950s US Navy issued 7823AER G-1 flight jacket. Made by L.W. Foster, a well known supplier of flight gear for the Navy. This is one of their largest contracts and these jackets are in demand due to their overall high quality. Original cuffs in very good condition. Right cuff had a one inch slit just below the leather, which has been repaired. It is on the underside of the cuff so not seen while wearing. Original single ply, bi-directional waistband in great condition with no holes or repairs of any kind. Original small Conmar zipper in good working order, with original leather pull still attatched. Silky soft mouton collar. Collar is very cool as it changes color depending on viewing angle. Goes from dark brown to honey blonde. Don't know that I've seen another with such color variation. Very clean white canvas lined inside pocket. Lining perfect. All buttons present. USN punched into windflap. No stencilling under collar. Goatskin leather, with hides well matched as to weight and grain. Soft and supple throughout. Leather name tag removed from left chest, about an inch above pocket. Stitch holes are tiny and all but invisible to the casual observer. T are a few nicks to the leather in the lower left shoulder area in back. These are minor and take nothing away from the jacket. They may be seen in the last picture, read more
