I am proud to offer this RARE pre-1961 Washington Redskins Pennant/Flag that Flew at Griffith Stadium in the 1950's. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece of Redskins and NFL history. You will not EVER see another on of this kind come up for auction again! If you are a NFL history collector or any sort of a Washington Redskins fan, then you will enjoy what you are about to read and the pictures above. This auction is for a piece of Redskins history! Offered here is a Vintage 1950's Washington Redskins stadium Pennant/Flag. This is the actual flag they flew over the stadium on the roof. Below is what the consignor tell me about this remarkable item. In the mid-1960's, the consignors father was given this Flag/Pennant by one of the top people with the Redskins. He was told that the flag flew over Griffith Stadium during the 1959 season, but may have flew for a couple years or five years. Did it fly during baseball games as well? Who knows. All he was told for sure, was that it was the flag that was there in 1959 football season. It was taken down and given directly to this Redskins employee after the 1959 season. After my consignors father became friends with the Redskins employee, he gave it to him for a present. It has been in my consignors family since the mid-1960's. I have researched the internet and can't find anything about this flag/pennant. From what I have seen and comparing some pictures, I am confident that it flew at Griffith Stadium, but I can not tell you for what years. He was told 1959, but it could have flew for 5 years and then was replaced. Or they may have been replaced every season. What I do know is that this flag is a one-of a kind, original that you will surely not see again. Just imagine what history this flag has seen in the Glory Days of the 1950's! WOW. That's all I can say is WOW. To appreciate this piece of history, you must see it in person. The size of it is amazing and cause me trouble on the photos. The actual size of the flag is 126" by 60" or 10 foot 6 inches by 5 foot. Now that's a pennant. The flag has a off-white strip at the base for trim, with the two flag rings in the top and bottom of the base as photo's show. It is bold, burgundy in color, with the bright yellow sewn on letters that spell "REDSKINS". Again, you can't look at the pictures and appreciate what is here. This thing is amazing. I mean it is 10 foot long!! As far as condition, this flag is in the condition you would expect it to be in. If it was Mint, we would all know it was never flown in the brutal cold winds & snow storms in Washington. It is not frayed at ANY point on the outside edge, which is amazing. It, however, has a little staining on two small parts and has some very minor holes in a couple places that are the size of the end of an ink pen. No dime size holes ANYWHERE. These small spots do not take away from the overall appearance of the Flag. You can't notice them until you get close to the flag and look close. There is no letters that are coming off and there is ZERO signs of any altercations being done to this flag. You will get it just as it came off the flag pole on Griffith Stadium! I have taken many up close pics to show some of the worse spots, but this flag is in the BEST condition it could be in for actually being flown over the stadium for a entire season or seasons for that matter! The consignor has asked me to run this item here on eBay for True auction with no reserve. You can decide on what Redskin history is worth.
