This is an original four-color lithograph of a poster, created by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec in 1896, and produced by Fernand Mourlot in 1951. This poster which advertises The Chap Book, an American magazine, depicts the Irish and American Bar on the Rue Royale in Paris.Period Paper has acquired a collection of original lithographs from 1951 of some of the works of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) which were produced by legendary printer Fernand Mourlot of Imprimerie Mourlot Frères, Paris. These lithographs are miniature versions of some of Toulouse-Lautrec's finest lithographed posters from the turn of the 20th century. They are the most coveted of the miniature posters that exist today due to the lithographic processes used to create them and the artists of the Mourlot studio who produced them. Please note, these are NOT current reproductions, copies, or digital prints. Fernand Mourlot. The son of Jules Mourlot, he and two of his brothers joined their father in the Imprimerie Bataille, Paris. Upon the death of Jules Mourlot in 1921, the atelier was renamed Mourlot Frères. Under the guidance of Fernand, Mourlot Frères developed an exceptional reputation with museums and galleries for producing finely executed art posters in the 1920's and 1930's. The prominent artists of the day came to the studio and began years of cooperative work with Fernand Mourlot. The results of this collaboration were so successful that more and more galleries chose Mourlot to print posters for their exhibits, known as Affiches de Peintres Lithographiées. By the mid-20th century, the reputation of Mourlot Frères was so respected that the words "Imprimée par Mourlot" were enough to guarantee the finest quality lithographs and demand a premium collector or auction value, worldwide. This 57+ year old item is rated Near Mint / Very Fine+ according to the grading guidelines established by the National Archive of Illustration and Advertising Art. No water damage. No tears. No surface rub. No creases. No natural defects. An excellent original image for framing! This image is protected by a digital watermark. This mark does not exist on the original print. The digital files are also available without the watermark. Accompanying this item will be a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the National Archive of Illustration & Advertising Art (NAIAA). This item is certified authentic and will be registered in the NAIAA database and assigned a unique number which will be on the certificate and will be used to identify the digital master file maintained in the database. The NAIAA uses a two-part authentication system and will issue both the COA and a Print Identification label with matching numbers. The certificate and label will have the NAIAA security seal and each are printed on different custom papers and embossed to eliminate reproduction. This certificate is hand-signed and dated and documents the grade issued according to the NAIAA grading system.
