This is a $1 Postal Savings System Certificate of Deposit. This was purchased by my husband's mother in 1952 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It has been in the fire-proof box for years. Information on the internet is scarce but it looks like it is a rare piece. The interest paid on these deposits was 2%. But in 1971 the Post Office stopped issuing the certificates and stopped paying interest on them. This certificate has never ben cashed in. It is in mint condition and has the envelope it came in. Both sides of the deposit are shown as well as the front and back of the envelope.
