Up for sale is this nearly complete set of Bowman Color baseball cards. This lot makes up 73% of the 160 card set. The 1953 Bowman Color set is considered by most to be the most beautiful baseball card set ever to be printed. Their simple, full color photo fronts give them a very striking appearance. This was the first set to ever use full color photos, and not the to before seen âeoepaintingâe prints. Bowman was trying to come up with an answer to the very popular 1952 Topps set. Unfortunately, the company almost went broke in the production and printing of this set and was only able to finish it with 160 cards (Bowman was bought out by Topps after the 1955 set). The set is comprised of three series: low number, mid number, and high number cards. The mid number series is the rarest and have the most valuable common cards, with the high series coming in a close second in common card value. The first card in the set, the Davey Williams card, and the last card, the Cal Abrams card (both found in this lot), are extremely hard to find in high grade condition and are thus worth more ($175 and $500, respectively). Due to all of the reasons above, I was determined to collect the set and own a very important piece in baseball card history. Unfortunately, after quite a few years of building the set, Iâe(tm)ve found it too daunting of a task, and Iâe(tm)ve thrown in the towel. Hopefully, my lack of patience can become a huge step in your building of this awesome card set. I have put a very reasonable Buy It Now price on this lot, and I am also accepting Best Offers. T is no way that you could get all of these âe(tm)53 Bowmans for this price in a card shop. All reasonable offers will be considered. Please, serious buyers only.
Below please see the list of all of the cards, with grades indicated. I was trying to put together a set that was comprised of VG - EX+ condition cards. I am a conservative grader and base all of my grade designations (as best I can) on PSAâe(tm)s standards. I do add âeoe+âe and âeoe-âeoe to some of the grades to give an indication of which end of the scale they are leaning. I will start with the star and high dollar cards in the set, and then list in numerical order: STARS & KEYS: #33 Peewee Reese (VG with surface wrinkles and corner wear), #153 Whitey Ford (VG with two ¼âe surface wrinkles), #121 Yogi Berra (G beautiful front and corners, but has quarter-size paper loss spot on back), #32 Stan Musial (VG with some staining and small spot of surface wear), #118 Billy Martin (VG+/EX beautiful, with small surface wrinkle), #46 Roy Campanella (VG, off center, bottom edge wear and surface wear), #97 Eddie Mathews (VG+/EX beautiful, with small surface wrinkle), #93 Phil Rizzuto/Billy Martin (VG/VG+ with small spot of surface wear, and ¼âe surface wrinkle), #92 Gil Hodges (VG+ off center, corner wear), #9 Phil Rizzuto (G+/VG surface and corner wear), #146 Early Wynn (VG/EX surface wrinkle), #18 Nellie Fox (VG/EX surface wrinkle), #10 Richie Ashburn (EX), #65 Robin Roberts (EX slight wax staining on back), #84 Hank Bauer (G+/VG- surface wrinkles, one crease in corner that shows through to back), #80 Ralph Kiner (EX+ beautiful card), #61 George Kell (VG surface wear, slight wax staining on back), #62 Ted Kluszewski (VG+ surface and corner wear), #51 Monte Irvin (EX/EX+), #1 Davey Williams (VG+/EX surface wrinkle), #160 Cal Abrams (VG+ surface wrinkle) THE REST LISTED ONLY BY NUMBER IN NUMERICAL ORDER (ALL ARE IN EX CONDITION , UNLESS NOTED) : 2, 3 (VG+), 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 (VG), 11, 13 (G+/VG), 15, 17, 19 (EX+), 20 (G+/VG), 21, 22 (EX+), 23 (EX+), 24, 25, 26 , 27 (VG+), 28 (VG+), 29 (VG), 30 (G), 31 (VG), 34 (EX+), 35, 36 (VG âe" Minoso), 37, 38, 39, 40 (Doby), 41, 42 (VG+), 43, 47 (NM), 48 (VG/VG+), 49, 50 52, 54, 58 (VG+), 60 (VG+), 64 (VG), 67 (VG), 69 (G+/VG), 73, 76 (VG), 77 (EX+), 78 (VG+), 82, 83, 85 (VG), 86, 88 (EX+), 90 (VG+/EX), 91, 94 (VG), 95, 96 (VG), 98 (VG+/EX), ...
