1953 Penny - lovely example - Scarce Date. This coin was only issued in the 1953 mint set issued by the Royal Mint in a plastic set to celebrate the Coronation of the new Queen - Elizabeth II. This one must have been taken out of the mint set and spent. According to Royal Mint issue figures there were 1000 1967 pennies minted for each 1953 penny, giving some idea of the scarcity of this coin. In addition to this 1953 was the only year that the legend on the obverse included "Britt Omn" which translates as "Queen of all Britains" This makes this an essential coin in any type set of QEII penny collection.
