Virtuoso violinist Isaac Stern is one of the twentieth centuryâe(tm)s most renowned, celebrated and recorded musicians. He is widely recognized as an influential teacher, emissary, speaker, and humanitarian. He toured for the U.S.O. in World War II , opened the Soviet Union to cultural exchange during the Cold War, and helped save Carnegie Hall from the wreckerâe(tm)s ball in 1960. Involved in both the politics and culture of Israel since its establishment, Sternâe(tm)s influence reaches far beyond America. In this Lobby Card can be seen in one scene of the 1953 american movie "Tonight We Sing". Tonight We Sing is the life story of legendary impresario Sol Hurok, impersonated in by David Wayne. A lover of the arts, young immigrant Hurok despairs when he realizes he has no musical or artistic talents. Thus it is that, despite great personal and financial sacrifice, Hurok devotes his life to discovering and nurturing other performers and bringing them to Broadway. Among his more celebrated protégés are Russian opera-singer Feodor Chaliapin (performed by a superb Ezio Pinza) and violinist Eugene Ysaye ( performed by the worlwide famous Isaac Stern). Other notables making guest appearances are singers Jan Peerce and Roberta Peters and the eximious ballerina Tamara Toumanova. Anne Bancroft co-stars as Hurok's gentle, patient wife Emma. read more
