Up for bid is a 1953 Topps #86 baseball card of BILLY MARTIN. Probably best known for his managerial career with the New York Yankees and the Oakland A's, Martin also had a famous playing career, mostly with the "Bronx Bombers." In the 1953 season (the year of this card) he had career highs in home runs (15), RBIs (75), doubles (24), and triples (6). In the World Series, over just six games, he had a then record 12 hits, batting .500 with a .958 slugging percentage. He was named MVP of the Series. He appeared in five World Series with the Yankees, four of which they won (including 1953). Martin passed away on Christmas day, 1989.
Condition:(see photos for centering); a perfect rectangle, measuring 2-5/8" by3--3/4" (some distortion from the digital lens may have occurred); "dinged" corners, especially the lower left w t is a light diagonal crease that shows up on the back as a light "spider crease;" the edges are a bit roughish; except for the corners, the back is crisp and clean; the front of the card shows no major creases or wrinkles; t are no tears, holes, or writing. The surface gloss remains quite beautiful, displaying the wonderful artist's rendition of Martin with sharp and vibrant color.
