It was manufactured circa 1953 by the Swihart Company of Elwood, Indiana. Swihart was independently commissioned to make similar NEON SHAKER CLOCKs for 7-UP and COCA-COLA. Ot the three, the PEPSI clock is the most rare and never seen at market until now. Historically, it has only changed hands privately between collectors. As a point of interest, the COKE version of the Swihart Neon Shaker Clocks recently sold for 6K, and the complete "set" of the COKE, PEPSI and 7-UP clocks sold for 16K. The most striking feature of this awesome clock is the motorized bottle cap centered in the upper part of the face. It is embossed and die-cut metal with downward flaring edges. The painting detail which enhances the 3-D effect is particularly fine Although the pictures only show the bottle cap in the center and in the left positions, the motorized bottle cap rotates forty-five degrees from center both to the right and to the left, acting as a sort of second hand or pendulum. The effect as you watch is that the bottle cap is twisting itself open. Because of this action, the clock as known at a "shaker" clock among collectors. The condition of this amazing piece is NEAR MINT. The single dot dates it after 1952, but this clock has obviously been cherished all these years. The aluminium can metal of the case is bright and shiny as you can see. The face is metal with silk screened enamel numerals and PEPSI logo. The white of the face and the red and blue of the enamel paint are all as fresh, vibrant and glossy as one could wish. T are some minor manufacturing irregularities, but these in no way compromise the value. The set stem, white neon light (which is a complete circle around the perimeter of the face, tucked under the edge of the case) and motoized shaker bottle cap all work perfectly. The flat glass face cover is basically flawless. In the spirit of full disclosure, we note that t is an extra hole in the back, which may indicate a repair at some point, or could simply be an artifact of manufacture. 20" diameter, 6" deep.
