You are bidding on an Order of theArrow patch from the early 1950’s. This patch was from 1954 commemorating the 39 TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ORDER OF THE ARROW CONFERENCE'S HELD IN LARAMIE WYOMING. This patch has never been used and is in MINT MINT CONDITION. I have had this patch since 1954. The patch has been in storage for almost 60 years. The patch is 4 1/2" long plus the button loop at the top.

This is RARE FIND in this condition, Conference Patches where issued only to attendee in limited numbers.

Brief History and Organization of the Order of the Arrow

The Grand Lodge of the Order of the Arrow was formed in 1921. In 1929, one of the early “regional” meetings was hosted by Octoraro Lodge #22 in eastern PA at Camp Horseshoe and was the equivalent of the Section Conclave of today.

In 1930 the OA became one of four programs sanctioned as official experiments by the BSA. The OA program over the next fourteen years adopted and standardized methods and procedures and was finally accepted as a permanent part of the BSA in 1948. As part of the 1948 integration into the BSA program, the 26 Areas were abandoned and lodges were redistributed among the Twelve Scouting Regions , which were aligned along the twelve districts of the Federal Reserve banking system . 1949 was a transition year, with some areas holding final events while others adopted the new region-area alignment.

The 12 Regions functioned from 1948 to 1972 when the BSA was restructure into 6 Regions till1993 when the current 4 Regions were formed.
