1955 Topps All American Football #68 The Four Horsemen SP, PSA 9 MINT ....From the Fight4OldDC Collection!
Outlined against a blue, gray October sky the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are known as famine, pestilence, destruction and death. These are only aliases. Their real names are Stuhldreher, Miller, Crowley and Layden.
The nickname was conceived by the legendary New York Herald-Tribune writer Grantland Rice in an article he wrote following the Army-Notre Dame game in 1924. Borne of Knute Rockne’s revolutionary offensive theories regarding the forward pass and precise line play, the Four Horsemen led the Fighting Irish to a 30–2 record over the course of three years, an undefeated season in 1924, and a Rose Bowl victory over Stanford in their final game together. The short print is the key to the Topps 1955 All American set, the most popular and collected vintage football issue in the hobby. None graded higher.
