This 1957 Dualite clock for Maremont Mufflers will be fifty years old next September, according to the inkstamped manufacturing date found on the side of the motor. This clock is a survivor, and although it's showing its age in some areas, it's been completely disassembled, cleaned, lightly oiled, rewired and reassembled with fresh lighting, and it's ready for many more years to come. It has an outer plastic shell with a glass dome over the dial, held in place by a polished aluminum ring. The dial is hinged at the top, so you can lift the clock up to change the light bulbs without taking it off the wall. In a darkened room, it glows with a nice even light. The clock needed a complete cleaning and some plastic repairs when I first got it. Due to its age, the plastic does retain some stains that are visible up close, but those do not affect the lighting. T is also an old repair from some years ago, made to the plastic edges at around the 3:00 mark (see last photo) w some pieces were broken out and reglued, and a straight-line seam through the number 5 on the dial that may be a repaired heat crack. Again, this is not obvious in use. I also repaired a heat crack in the faceplate caused by an overhot bulb in the past, and that is now visible only as a faint hairline through the "MARE" in "MAREMONT." The logo itself shows some fading in the red area over the bulbs, although all the lettering, logo and numbers remain clear and sharp. The bulletproof Synchron motor is running fine, and an inkstamp of "9-57" on the side of the motor gives the actual date that the clock was assembled. The mechanism was cleaned and lightly oiled, and all wiring except for the clock motor leads was completely replaced. The hands are clean, straight and original, right down to the small "droop" on the ends of the minute and sweep-second hands that allows them to curve down to clear the edges of the glass dome. (See photos) The ceramic sockets were also cleaned while the clock was apart, the retainer ring was polished with Wright's Silver Cream, and new 11-watt commercial sign backlighting bulbs were installed, made specifically for this purpose and rated for 3000 hours at 130V. Their glass envelopes are smaller than standard household bulbs, so you get more even lighting without hot spots shining through the dial. The clock is about 16" in diameter and 5" deep. Although it's not a mint original clock, it still looks great on your wall. Don't miss it!
