Vintage Sterling Silver Portable Communion Set Made in England 1958 Product Description Up for auction is this vintage seven-piece sterling silver portable communion set. It comes in a velvet-lined box and includes the following: Two glass bottles / vials with silver caps / closings, each approx. 4" high Silver chalice (cup), approx. 3.5" high Silver bread tray, approx. 3" in diameter Round lidded box for holding communion wafers, approx. 1.75" wide at widest point, decorated with cross on cap Silver spoon with cross at the top of the handle Cotton or linen cloth embroidered with cross, approx. 11" square, stored in a fold-down compartment The pattern name for this set is "Diadem." Each piece is marked with British sterling hallmarks communicating the following date information: London Silver Mark Lion Passant after 1820 C = 1958 B&W Ltd. 1924-1971 (Company of manufacture) Made in England Condition Silver needs polishing, but is not badly tarnished and is not pittted or corroded. The velvet lining shows wear from use, but the box itself is intact and in very good condition. One of the glass bottles appears to have some lime residue inside, but this could probably be removed with vinegar. The metal keepers were covered with velvet, but most of these are either missing from use or only loosely attached to the keepers. All read more
