Superb pair of vintage, @1960's, toby jugs! Grace Apgar, a sculptor and ceramist, purchased the original molds of these figures from an english manufacturer. Back in Marlboro, New Jersey at Big Brook Studio, she restored and redesigned these pieces. Molly Pitcher and her husband, John Hayes are represented as these authentic toby jugs of early American settlers. Quality pitchers, skillfully hand painted with attention to detail and a matte outer glaze and gloss inner glaze. On the bottom you will find the maker's mark "Molly Pitcher Hays, #5, by Grace Apgar, (c) U.S.A." and "John Hayes, (c) Grace Apgar, Toby #6, USA" - see photo. This duo is in very good condition with slight dings on each figure, notably around the top rim of the hats and on John Hays gun. T are no cracks or repairs on either piece.
