This Christmas-is-coming Auction presents a beautiful First Edition, First Printing (1960A) Gaudenzia: Pride of the Palio, hand-signed by Marguerite Henry. It remains in its vintage, First Printing Dust Jacket and is protected in a Mylar cover. This book is in superb condition with no other writing in the book. Gaudenzia was to be the sixth of Marguerite Henry's books made into a feature movie. However, while preparing to film the horse race at the Palio in Siena, Italy, with Marguerite Henry on the set, a problem arose that caused the end of the filming. The plans to finish the motion picture were never realized. Siena continues to host the unique horse race on July 2nd and August 16th of each year. What makes the race unique and inspired the book is that no purebreds are allowed to race. This enables the lowliest of horses to compete and win in this wonderful medieval setting. In addition to the Hand-signed First Printing Gaudenzia, Marguerite Henry hand-signed this wonderful 1970 First Day Issue Christmas Envelope. The stamp is a wonderful Victorian child's horse on wheels. Finally , Marguerite Henry hand-signed a card to the individual which reads ...
