1960's 8MM Print of Zapruder Film- Assassination of President John F. Kennedy 11/22/63 ....... The item presented is a vintage 60's 8 mm ( generation unknown ) print of the Abraham Zapruder film of the assassinaton of JFK taken by him (Zapruder) on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. The film belonged to my father, a Dallas attorney for 50 plus years, and was in his possession from the late 1960's until his death in 1995. I have had it since then and it has been kept in a bank safety deposit box... As a brief history, to the best of my recollection, I first viewed this film in late 1969 or early 1970 in my dad's office in the Mercantile Bank building in Dallas. T were a number of attorneys and various others at that showing and we were all shocked at what we saw the first time we viewed the film....... The film begins with a few frames of Mr, Zapruder's employees in Dealey Plaza as they were awaiting the Presidential Motorcade and then the some 400+ frames of the crowd and the assassination as it took place beginning to end on that infamous day in American history....... The actual film itself is in very good condition. It is completely intact with no splices or missing frames. The film is in Color and, eventhough it is somewhat grainy, it is relatively very clear. It is on (as far as I know) it's original vintage grey plastic spool and is contained in it's original light gauge, slightly damaged cardboard box... On the box, in green colored ballpoint ink, in a combination of printing and handwriting ( who's writing is unknown ) is this statement: FILM OF J.F. KENNEDY ASSASSINATION Print of Original taken 11/22/63....... I do not actually know the origin of the film or how it came to be in my dad's possession. He had a wide variety of clients and friends public and private but, I have no recollection of him saying w or from whom he obtained this film. Through research I have learned that it could have originated from the late sixties Garrison proceedings in New Orleans, however, that would only be a guess. Respectfully, thank you for your time and attention... Dallas, Texas 11/22/63: On a crisp autumn day a breath of fresh air passed this way then disappeared into a puff of smoke... Joy turned to sorrow for we had lost tomorrow and history had become a cruel joke... T was no rhyme or reason mankind was in season and in a moment decency was lost, liberty was taken, humanity forsaken scant precedent could estimate the cost... The enemy was them... they say the enemy was you... sometime it might be all of us and sometime just a few... Man's inhumanity to man is often weighed and measured but, something gained through someone's loss is nothing to be treasured.......
Additional information (7/7/08) in response to email questions: We have never made nor attempted to have copies made of this film. It has only been viewed a very few times in our entire history (nearly 40yrs.) of ownership. During that time, it has never been out of our possession except for being stored in a safety deposit box. I (We) have always handled the film with care and respect and, only when necessary. Also, during our very limited viewings or inspections, we have seen no obvious evidence of missing frames or splices.
