1960s EASTERN AIRLINES PILOT WING BADGE with HAT

THIS OBSOLETE 1960s EASTERN AIRLINES BADGE IS APPROX. 2" WIDE * HAS SCREW BACK * HAS BOTH EASTERN SIDE BUTTONS * HAT IS SIZE 7 5/8 * HAT IS MADE OF A DARK GREEN WOVEN MESH MATERIAL AND IS IN GREAT TO FANTASTIC CONDITION * T IS ONE TINY OIL STAIN/SPOT ON TOP OF THE HATs VISOR (SEE Photo's), which WAS NOT clean off BY ME or THE PREVIOUS OWNER, only because t's a thin layer of dark green "felt-like" material - similar to what's found on a pool table - lining the top of this hats visor.) * THE BADGE SHOWS SLIGHT WEAR FOR ITS AGE.

After winning the above item (w/ a history of 13 bids), one of the compettive bidder's was nice enough to inform/email me that I had just bought an OLD Eastern Airlines SkyCap Hat w/ a PILOTs HAT BADGE on it; and added that they were just bidding to try & win the PILOT HAT BADGE alone. Now, since I was just bidding on this cool eastern airlines hat & badge to wear while playing poker, at our local HARD ROCK CASINO, in order to distract the other players each weekend (and it did work) this other bidder got hot & botd by what I had said and sent me a nasty 2nd reply. I guess they really wanted to add this silver badge to their collection; but were un-willing to bid as high or higher then myself. Oh Well, that's how the cookie crumbles.

NOTE: The info. ABOVE & BELOW is what I received from both the SELLER and this other EbaY Buyer I bid against !

Once I read the other bidder's bit of info. (that they were so kind to fork over), I in-turn emailed the seller & asked her if she could provide me w/ any additional info. re. this hat and OR its badge when she mailed the item to me. Below is her email reply I got from her on the same day. And she said:

Let me give you a little background on the hat, that we bought at a hat collection from the estate of a collector of 30 years. He was in the process of opening a National Hat Museum in Durham, NC, when he died (during heart surgery) at the young aga of 54. He also owner and operated a bakery named "The Mad Hatter" in Durham. That's the only reference and the entire history I have on the hat. The man had notes w/ most of the hats, this one said "1960s Eastern Airlines" so I guess I assumed it was a pilot's hat, but it could be a SkyCap and the person who contacted you certainly may be more knowledgeable on Eastern Airlines than I am.

I had no intention of misrepresenting the hat and I know you said it didn't matter which the hat was (because you liked it because it was cool & very old), but if you decided you don't want it, just let me know. I try very hard to satisfy my customers and always want them to be pleased w/ their purchase.

You must be a shrewed poker player to plot this distraction and the hat would certainly be a novelty for distraction at the game table. I'm glad I'm not the one playing against you. >

************ SO that's that, and that's all I know Re. this item, except that these Eastern Badges are highly sought after by Eastern Airline Collectors, and its your's for the bidding ..... PS: It is a very beautiful piece over all, that's in fantastic condition IMHO for its age.

's web site that called "MEMORIES OF EASTERN" w I guess ex-Eastern Airline employees share what their favorite memory of Eastern was/were. Ex. their first day, week/year at the airlines, etc., etc., ...

/memories.htm

I know nothing/very little about the above site/and have no connection in anyway to them, but it looks like a place for Eastern employees to share past experinces; and maybe a place w some of you might want to visit to learn more Re. this item and other things un-known about the co. and its people by you todate. I hope its of some help. Capt.-out! .............................................................................................................................
