1961 HARDCOVER WITH PRICED DUST JACKET (21.s NET) "LOLITA" BY VLADIMIR NABOKOV WEIDENFELD & NICHOLSON FIRST EDITION STATED FIFTH IMPRESSION JANUARY 1961 ------------------- Up for auction is a 1961 First British Edition, Stated Fifth Impression, Hardcover with Priced Dust Jacket (in British lbs) of "Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov. Scarce title. This was a banned book for two year. Its eventual British publication be Weidenfeld & Nicholson caused a scandal that contributed to the end of the political career of one of the publishers, Nigel Nicholson. The priced dust jacket is protected in a Demco mylar, it has the photo of Nabokov on the back. The dj has shelfwear to the edges. Page 158 has a smudge. There is no writing. There is a booksellers stamp on the lower edge near the spine of the first flypage. It has black boards with silver gilt. The silver gilt is bright. The front board has a stain on the upper edge.
