Ludwig Von Drake, Donald Duck's "other" uncle (with all due respect to Uncle Scrooge McDuck) is a wacky pedagogue of indeterminate Bavarian origin, and a self-proclaimed expert on everything. He was created to appear in the first episode of Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color in 1961, the season Disney moved from ABC to NBC to take advantage of the new network's emphasis on color broadcasts. Von Drake was so successful at explaining the mechanics of television and the colors of the spectrum that he soon developed quite a following, and starred in many more episodes of Disney's anthology TV series--not to mention the award-inning theatrical featurette, A Symposium On Popular Songs . As with most Disney characters, the inspired brilliance of Ludwig Von Drake was a collaborative effort of writers and animators, but in this case, the shining star must go to Von Drake's voice: the great Paul Frees .
