I am now listing one of the most important collections of original art, sketches and autographs to appear on the market from one collector in years--this gentleman collected for over 40 years and was a total fan of popular culture and immersed himself in items of unique interest. He bought his autographs only from 2 respected dealers through the years OR any such avenues that only he could ferret out eclectic pieces. His art and sketches--mostly comic strips, comic pages, sketches, unpublished special pieces, etc. --he obtained from top dealers, artists and fellow collectors. He also would contribute to the Milt Gross Cartoonists charity and was sent special pieces of art in gratitude. He was also a wonderful letter writer and he was able to convey his feelings regarding cartoon art to the artist in a most literate way. Phil was a dear friend and I know that he would want his pieces cared for and appreciated by collectors such as himself. in the next few weeks we will be presenting the PHIL HOWLETT collection.........DELL comics cover original art for MGM's SPIKE & TYKE #25 from 1961. Hard to find vintage DELL art. rarer than the later Gold Key art. Harvey Eisenberg art. He started as an animator with MGM and eventually did lots of Western Publishing-Dell comics art including virtually all of the Tom & Jerry comic book art from the 40's to the early 60's!!! He also drew all the art for the early Hanna-Barbera Dell comic titles. LARGE size. much larger than the Gold Key covers. Has the hint of a blue pencil partial logo. my camera is malfunctioning--had to rely on scans--didn't pick up everything but most of it. Nice baby boomer art!!!
