Jim Tyrer was an All-American offensive lineman at Ohio State under Coach Woody Hayes. He was the 22nd pick in the 1961 AFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs/Dallas Texans and became an immediate starter. Tyrer was named All AFL each year from 1962-1969 (and again in the NFL in 1971 and 1972). He played for three AFL Championship teams and helped the Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl IV. After 13 seasons with Kansas City, Tyrer played his final year in Washington (1974) before retiring. But life after football was not an easy adjustment for Jim Tyrer. He worked as a salesman, then made some poor investments, and eventually was selling Amway products. Sadly, for whatever reason, Tyrer snapped in September, 1980 when he shot and killed his wife, then turned the gun on himself. He was only 41 years old. Unfortunately, one of the greatest offensive linemen ever determined his own legacy and will probably be forever denied admission into the Hall of Fame where he belongs. This is an original 1965 Topps Football card #110 in ex-mint condition and personally autographed in ballpoint pen by the late JIM TYRER (died 1980). Signed IN-PERSON and guaranteed to pass the test of any self-proclaimed "authenticator" you choose to waste money on. See our Other Auctions this week for some primo signed football cards.
