We have a Large Personal Astronauts Autograph Collection going up for auction. This auction is for the Vintage Astronaut Autograph 1966 Neil Armstrong Signature with post dated envelope as listed and shown. This piece came out of a very large personal autograph collection as shown in last photos. Collection was documented very well, and was very neatly organized. I am photographing items as I remove them from the binder, and this lot includes all items for as shown in first photos of listing. The last photos are of the whole collection as it was discovered for reference purposes only. Please note that I am not an autograph collector or appraiser and auction is for items as found and shown in photos. Neil Alden Armstrong (born August 5, 1930) is a former American astronaut, test pilot, university professor, and naval aviator. He is the first person to have set foot on the Moon. His first spaceflight was aboard Gemini 8 in 1966, for which he was the command pilot. On this mission, he performed the first manned docking of two spacecraft together with pilot David Scott. Armstrong's second and last spaceflight was as mission commander of the Apollo 11 moon landing mission on July 20, 1969. On this famous "giant leap for mankind", Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended to the lunar surface ("The Eagle has landed") and spent 2.5 hours exploring while Michael Collins orbited above.Before becoming an astronaut, Armstrong was an aviator for the USN and saw action in the Korean War. After the war, he served as a test pilot at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) High-Speed Flight Station, now known as the Dryden Flight Research Center, w he flew over 900 flights in a variety of aircraft. As a research pilot, Armstrong served as project pilot on the F-100 Super Sabre A and C aircraft, F-101 Voodoo, and the Lockheed F-104A Starfighter. He also flew the Bell X-1B, Bell X-5, North American X-15, F-105 Thunderchief, F-106 Delta Dart, B-47 Stratojet, KC-135 Stratotanker and Paresev. He graduated from Purdue University. We have learned some additional information about the autographs in our collection, and how they were acquired. It appears that the collector spent years writing to popular personalities during the 1960's, writing a personalized letter, and explaining how they have spent many years trying to put together a historical autograph collection album for her young sons. Often requesting a signed photo, or an authentic signature directly from the personality. She also included a self address stamped envelope with a prepared paper "The Signature of ....". It seems that from the size of this collection that she had quite the success rate. And may have gotten a lot more authentic direct signatures from the persons as a result from her detailed letters.
