This auction is for a VERY BEAUTIFUL and interesting version of Tonka's 1967 No. 840 Car Carrier set. This is the only one I've seen issued with a red cab, and, since it came from the collection of a former Tonka engineer, I believe that it's completely original. Regardless it's a very nice toy with the original box. Measures 28" long.Very good condition, about a C8+ out of 10. Metal is straight, paint is nice, the plastic cars are a bit warped and the blue one has damaged axle support. Most of the box is pretty nice but it is rough on the flap end and a portion is missing (see photos). This came from the collection of the late Jon Ohlsson, a former Tonka engineer (who also worked for Buddy-L, Smith-Miller, Jo-Hann Models, and others). Ohlsson was a collegue of another former Tonka head engineer, Mr. Vernon Wamsley (of Elkhart, Indiana who worked with Mr. Ohlsson). Mr. Wamsley was the engineer responsible for developing the over-sized or fat tire Jeeps and the AMC Pacer. Thats probably the reason Mr. Ohlsson had so many test sample Jeeps in his extensive collection. Please inspect the large photos that compliment the description.
