As many of you have seen, we have been auctioning off my father's gun estate on . My father is Harry W. Sanford the originator of the AutoMag, AMT, IAI, TDE, OMC, and other cutting-edge, stainless steel guns of the 20th Century. He was one of the greatest gun gurus of the last century. He passed in 1996, and t has finally been agreement to sell his gun and knife collections. He had the best, and most of it new/mint. He was a true legend who appreciated the best. This auction is for starting for an insanely low starting price of 1.00, so everyone will have a chance to win this great Bowie with all its original paperwork. I do not believe you will ever have the opportunity to own such a mint 1970s Randall with all the paperwork again. It is Randall's top of the line. This is a #12 - 13 inch Raymond Thorpe Bowie with walnut handle, scalloped brass collar, scalloped brass butt cap, brass lugged hilt, brass strip embedded in the blade, left handed tie down Model A sheath. These were all custom ordered features. I don't know why the sheath is left handed when my father was right-handed. Since I am the only left-handed person in my family, I believe this might have been a Christmas gift for me -- that my Dad found it was too nice to give away when he received it. Anyway, it is perfect. Never sharpened or used. It was found in my Dad's safe with the original and mint 34-page catalog from Randall Made Knives dated 1975 (Twenty-Third printing) (Green Color). The Raymond Thorpe Bowie has a 13" blade, 1 5/8" wide of 1/4" stock. Top cutting edge is sharpened at the factory. It has an approximate 5 1/4" custom factory walnut handle with a brass lugged hilt. T is a brass strip expertly and factory installed in the top of the blade. The reason for this, legend has it, is that in a knife fight when the opposing blade hits the top of your blade, the soft metal will give thus slowing down your opponents blade allowing you to counter attack more effectively. This knife is modeled after a design furnished by Raymond W. Thorpe, author of The Bowie Knife . Randall says this is probably the most nearly authentic Bowie type. This monster weighs about 26 oz. T are two original letters from Randall written by someone called "L." The first letter outlines the receipt of the order in 1975. It mentions that no longer do they do Ivory or Stainless Blades. One letter mentions that t was to be an initial plaque on the knife, but that does not appear on the knife. The Model A left hand sheath has the dark grey sharpening stone. T is also an original four-page sharpening instruction sheet with the knife that has lots of information. This would be considered its original "manual." As you can see, t are two pictures of the knife. The cleaner ones were taken in 1997, and the ones showing the knife tarnished were taken this week. T his knife has not seen the light of day since my father died. I am going to leave the removing of any tarnish to the new owner. This knife HAS NEVER BEEN USED. It does not have a SCRATCH, BUMP OR ANY COSMETIC PROBLEM. IT IS MINT! It is wrapped as it was from the factory in 1975 to 1976. The sheath is the same as well -- MINT. I think this is a special opportunity for an amazing investment. The top of the line knife with custom features, hand-made by one of the most famous knife makers in the world! This knife is over 32 years old and in totally NEW AND MINT condition with all of the original paperwork plus provenance letters. Don't forget -- it was owned by one of the most famous gun guys of the 20th century! IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE KNIFE IN YOUR COLLECTION, THIS WOULD BE IT. If you would like a letter from me as to the ownership of this knife by my father, I would be happy to supply it upon request. We package very well but we will include insurance for this great collector's piece. We accept credit cards, but we have to charge an extra ...
