Vintage early issue # 50 of Rolling Stone magazine dated January 21, 1970 and featuring a classic cover of concert crowd at Altamont Speedway under the headline: LET IT BLEED The Rolling Stones Disaster at Altamont . The inside cover has a large photo of a concerned Mick Jagger, hand covering his mouth, as he looks beyond members of the Hell’s Angel’s contingent, down into the front rows of the crowd. There’s fifteen full pages of reporting. This excellent feature length article on the Stones and their fated Altamont concert has many other priceless photos including Keith Richards, guitar in hand pointing to the Hell’s Angels and yelling “Keep it cool!”, the Hell’s Angels beating a hapless concert goer with pool sticks, and 10+ closeup photos of the concert crowd. Were you there? Maybe this is you! There are also good reads on Jimi Hendrix, the rumored split of the Beatles, Delaney & Bonnie, and James Brown. The columns Random Notes and Dope Notes are fascinating time capsules which provide glimpses of the events and perspectives of the time. Album reviews are of Hate To See You Go by Little Walter, Bummer Road by Sonny Boy Williamson, Whose Muddy Shoes by Elmore James, Door to Door by Albert King & Otis Rush, Sail On by Muddy Waters, Evil by Howlin’ Wolf, and Willy And The Poor Boys by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
