1970's Cortez Acoustic dreadnought Guitar Fabulous! offered is a vintage I believe 1970's Cortez J-660 dreadnought style guitar. This guitar is as nice as you'll find out t in an acoustic guitar that is 40 years old or so. I believe it is from the early 70's as the song books and instructions book on how to play guitar that was in the case is also from the early 1970's. We are relisting this guitar and starting the opening bid w everyone can get in if they wish. Please note this is a 3 day auction and t is NO RESERVE. The original owner could not and did not play this guitar more than a few times as the condition is as close to mint as you'll ever find. The back is stunning with a nice inlay running the full length. Cortez guitars were first made in the 1960's and were strickly made in Japan. This line of guitars was imported from Japan beginning in the 1960's by Jack Westheimer along with other known brands of the time. Wikipedia has a great story about this man and the Cortez line , we've included this in part in the last of our description. This Cortez guitar we have for sale is a dreadnought I'm pretty sure as the neck is attached at the 14th fret and squared shouldered and base. The overall size is appx. 41" long x 16" at widest body x 11 3/4" top part of body. The Cortez is an abalone inlay and made in Japan sticker on the back of the head is as mint as the rest of the guitar. The tuners are perfect! The bridge is exceptional and stylish. The case for this guitar is included in the auction. I'm not a professional player but have handled a few nice vintage guitars , this one is as nice of a copy line of Gibson or Martin that I've seen. T is not much information out t about Cortez but it is as stated a known fact that they are the predeccesors of the Cort line of Guitars. Now a bit about the Cortez history ; While t may have been a handful of intrepid pioneers who began developing international guitar manufacturing, it's no exaggeration to say that no one has had a bigger impact on the globalization of guitars than Mr. Jack Westheimer - one of the pioneers of global guitarmaking. Among the brands associated with his activities are Kingston, Teisco, Teisco Del Rey, Silvertone, Emperador, Cortez, and Cort, not to mention a host of other monikers that have graced guitars coming from the Cort factory. Even if you haven't played one of these guitars, t's a good chance that if you've ever played a decent-quality beginner import, you've played a guitar associated with Westheimer. In fact, Westheimer was one of the earliest (and most influential) importers to cultivate Japanese manufacturing in the years surrounding 1960. The Cortez brand name dates bact to around '60, and the beginning of our tale. The Cortez brand was given (by Westheimer) to a line of good-quality Martin-style dreadnoughts manufactured in Japan by the Hiyashi (or Yashi?) factory. Westheimer dispatched some of his staff to visit the factory and work with them to develop the product, resulting in Cortez acoustic guitars. Remember, guitars were still called Spanish guitars in those days, an appellation that has fallen by the wayside; hence, the "Spanish" names like Cortez and del Rey. According to Westheimer, Hiyashi was one of the top Japanese acoustic factories, and it was responsible for many Cortez and Emperador acoustics.
