Originally founded in 1927 as Aeroput, the airline ceased operations during World War II. The airline resumed operations in 1947 and was renamed to JAT - Jugoslovenski Aerotransport on April 1, 1947 and then to Jat Airways in 2003, making it today one of the oldest airlines still in operation.
