This is a stylized reproduction of an ancient and elegant cross that adorns the top of Funchal Cathedral in the capital city of romantic Madeira Island some three hundred miles southwest of Portugal, the mother country. It is by these steps of historic Funchal Cathedral that the women flower-sellers of Madeira, famous for its fine wines, customarily remove from their heads their huge baskets of blossoms, setting them down to don silk kerchiefs before entering the holy sanctuary to pray that their baskets will be empty before nightfall. It may be worn as a piece of jewelry, adorn a Christmas tree, or be hung in a window or on a door. At the end of the 1974 production run, the die was retired, assuring the creation of a collector's item.It comes in half of its original box, with felt sleeve and paperwork. Please note that this piece is missing its original hanging loop, but the hole is still t so you can thread something through or put a ring on yourself.I've freshly polished this ornament and the others we have up this week.
