1975 Denmark eight piece Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tale Silver Medal Collection in excellent condition. Issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) - Denmark's world famous storyteller. The medals commemorate eight of Andersen's well-known fairy tales which are the themes for the reverse designs. They are: The Ugly DucklingThe Little Match GirlThe Flying TrunkThe Tinder-BoxWilly WinkyNumbskull JackThe Shepherdess and the Chimney SweepThumbelina. The obverse of each medal bears a portrait of Andersen, each in a different pose. All are numbered (110 of 2,000) and hallmarked .925 on their edge, along with maker and date. They come housed in the original case of issue. Designed by Harald Salomon and struck by Anders Nyborg A/S in specially toned .925 Sterling Silver. Each medal has a 50mm diameter and weighs approx 86 grams. Total weight is 690 grams ( 20.5 oz troy of Pure Silver). Photos are of the actual collection being sold.
