1976 Gottlieb Surf Champ 4-Player Pinball Machine:
Surf Champ, and its two-player cousin, Surfer, are probably my most favorite multi-player pinball machines EVER! The playfield has just about every different feature that was available in the EM era and the GRAPHICS are just OUTSTANDING everyw! If you are a surfer, a beach bunny, or just wish you were, this machine will make you feel like you are! It will even make you feel WARM during these cold winter evenings! And maybe more important than the nice theme and graphics, this machine is F-U-N to play and is PLUG AND PLAY, with GREAT action on the playfield with MANY varied targets and skill shots to aim for to try and maximize your score. If you are looking for a NICE looking machine that is FUN to play for up to FOUR players , is your answer! Although this machine is technically mechanically unshopped by me, other than replacing all of the bad bulbs, it is working great for one to four players! Being an EM machine that has been sitting idle for a short time, I'll stop short of saying that everything is working 100% correctly all of the time, but after playing a few four player games, I'd say that it has to be at least 99% working! As with all EM machines, this one needs to be PLAYED! You shouldn't have to do much, if anything, to the mechanics of this machine prior to being able to fully enjoy it in a game. Get it home, set it up, and start to play because it is PLUG AND PLAY! T is good action on the playfield with strong flippers and good pop from the pop bumpers and slingshots. And the overall nice cosmetics make it an even better candidate for your home gameroom! The original backglass is in VERY nice shape. It does have a couple small imperfections to mention, but nothing that detracts from its great look nor is really noticeable unless you are looking tor them! The solid white score reel border for player three has a small spot of missing paint above the "thousand's" comma. Beyond that ONE spot, though, t are only a few VERY minor nicks/chips in the paint, no flaking what so ever. The red background color behind the player numbers seems to be slightly faded, bu the other reds on the glass, including in the name, don't show any fade. All other colors are very bright and strong with no signs of any fading, either. This is a NICE looking backglass, but it is short of perfect. With a LITTLE bit of touchup in the solid white spot, you would be hardpressed to really see any imperfections. No disappointments , I don't think. The playfield paint is also in VERY nice shape with only a couple minor imperfections to mention. The two flippers have a LITTLE bit of past drag in their arches w it has slightly scratched the paint. T is a LITTLE bit of chipped paint immediately next to a couple of the plastic inserts, along with a few other SMALL nicks in the solid red areas in the upper center portion of the playfield around the pop bumpers and spinner posts. For wear, t is only ONE small (1/2" diameter) spot below the kickout hole in the upper right corner which is very typical for this machine. The solid blue and yellow areas in the lower part of the playfield are starting to show a LITTLE bit of woodgrain cracking, but now I'm starting to get REAL picky! I'm not trying to make this playfield sound worse than it is by mentioning the minor imperfections! It looks VERY nice, but isn't perfect. All of the colors are bright with no sign of any fading and the surfing graphics are outstanding. All of the plastics are in excellent condition with no cracks/breaks, including the two round pop bumper caps and all five original drop targets. The drop target faces show a little bit of wear in their graphics, but not real bad. I believe that new targets are available if you want perfect ones. The spinner in the center has non-original target face decals on both sides. They shows stars was the originals had surfer graphics. These decals, too, have been reproduced so you should be able to bring them back to ori...
