This 1976 150 Balboa coin features a superb medallic portrait of Simon Bolivar. The detail of the engraving is unusual on any modern coin. My photos didn't do it justice so I included two stock photos at the end of the photo list to show the beauty of this coin.Only 13,000 were issued in Proof condition. The coin weighs 9.5 grams of .999 pure Platinum, or .2987 onces of platinum.The150 Balboa coin was issued in celebration of the 150th anniverary of the Congress of Panama and was the first platinum coin minted in the Western Hemishere. In June and July of 1826 there met in Panama a conference which had as main objective the creation of a confederation of Latin American countries. This was the culmination of the great dream of Bolivar. Simon Bolivar died four years later, in 1830.
