Mercedes 280 E Auto Family owned from 2008 purchased showing 40,000 miles Currently taxed and a full year's MoT. MoT history from then until now at 56,000 miles. The car drives well and everything works well. The gearbox is smooth, the steering is light and responsive and the brakes stop her as they should. This is a sound and reliable car with one full year's MoT and no known mechanical faults. The tyres are good as is the condition of the alloys. the spare alloy and tyre are as new. There is an expensive Toad alarm and immobiliser which work well. The electric sunroof works, and the manual windows and central locking have no problems. There is only one set of keys. The car is a really solid basis to have a beautiful classic Mercedes. However it is 30 years old and It will need some attention from an enthusiast or a visit to the bodyshop to deal with a few areas of rust before they are allowed to become serious. Currently, areas to treat are, one rear arch and two small areas around one door which has a small hole in the bottom and the bottom edge where the lower front wing meets the door. There are detail photographs of these areas in the listing as well as both flanks of the car. Generally the paint and chrome is sound - although the pictures are 1000 words!.The missing three pointed star is in the glove box as it is better there than around a vandals neck and this and the bonnet requires their springs re-attaching to lift automatically. The interior is tidy and free from tears. There is a front and rear armrest which are in good shape. The carpets are fine if deserving a hoover. The blowers all work as does the heater. The drivers seat is a bit flat feeling although I am told that this is fairly typical. The car is now surplus to requirements and whilst I took it on, and intent on making it shine, parking in central London has made the practicality of a spare classic impossible for me. I am encouraged by the large amount of people watching my auction but not with the fact that nobody has asked to view the car yet. Yes it is cheap, in fact currently a banger racer has offered me more outside of the auction - however, the car deserves to be treated to some bodywork and at least to be used on a regular basis which is difficult for us in a controlled parking area. I mentioned that the interior had no rips - there is in fact one very small tear of about less than half an inch visible on the rear seat shot added - it will glue easily and was I am afraid hidden by the baby seat. There is also a small tear on the hidden mounting part of the front armrest between the front seats at the access point where it bolts into the chair - this took detective work to find, and yes it still needs a hoover! Good luck to all, and heres hoping she meets an upturn in fortunes better than stripping for bits and banger racing. That choice however is now soon to be someone elses.
