I purchased this charming COUNTRY stoneware pitcher at a LITTLE "out -of-the-way" new england antiques shop 3 years ago. It has been part of my personal collection ever since. Unfortunately, declining health has hit my wallet pretty hard as of late, and I have little choice but to put some of my own collection on the auction block. Though not an old piece (1980's) , it is a high quality, labor intensive "reproduction" which can be obtained without the need to Re-mortgage your home! This cobalt decorated, "salt-glaze" pitcher features a hand painted "stylized rooster" CAWING AT THE DAWN SUNRISE. The interior iS finished in a thick "brown glaze" . t is what appears to be an ink stamped potters mark on the bottom of the base. It looks like an encircled "p" with a partial "star" inside of that . This pitcher actually "looks" very similar to one of the "Ft. Edward, n.y." pieces shown in the "2008 kovels antiques and collectibles price guide"(see pg.643 & 645). It is definitely "inspired" by the one of the famous 19 th century american "northeast" crockeries. condition is "excellent", no chips, cracks or hairlines. Some TYPICAL LIGHT surface wear. a superficial 1" horizontal glaze scratch near the bottom of the handle on the "backside" being the only MENTIONABLE IMPERFECTION WORTH noting. warm, subtle patina throughout. *** measurements: read more
