The coins come in a really nice display box Beautiful South Africa proof gold coin, .917 pure gold, or 3.11 grams. 1981 South Africa Krugerrand 1/10 Oz Gold Coin22K Gold (3.11 Grams) DESCRIPTION The gold Krugerrand 's popularity and success ultimately led to the minting of gold coins by other nations during the late seventies and mid-eighties; the popular Canadian Maple Leaf in 1979 and the US Gold Eagle in 1986, to name just two.Krugerrand prices are very close to the gold market price as they are offered at premiums of no more than one percent above the gold spot price. This makes krugerrand gold bullion coins attractive to gold investors who buy krugerrands not for numismatic purposes but for speculation and/or investment. Later when selling krugerrands, the gold investor do not have to worry about a possible loss in numismatic value in the krugerrand as there isn't any. The obverse of the krugerand gold coin depicts the face of Paul Kruger (hence the name Kruger-rand), a prominent figure who led the Boer resistance against the British.
