Straight Billiard shape from Dunhill. Group 4(?) tapered stem. Five and three quarter inches long. There are two things to note about this pipe 1. This is one of the Dunhill Special Series D.R. (Dead Root) Denotes a Dunhill straight grain pipe with a root finish. D.R. stamped on the shank. Also stamped on the shank is E denoting the grade of the briar which is equivalent to ***** (5 Stars) 2. The pipe has clearly had some wear and the fit between the shank and the tenon is not perfect but this is only noticeable under very close inspection. I have shown this clearly in one of the photographs . However, that said, this is a lovely pipe, medium smoked. The bowl is darkened at the top but intact. The tobacco chamber is good and solid. There is a lot of smoking left in this pipe. The pipe looks great with a wonderful straight grain as you would expect for a DRE. This is a good solid Dunhill.Special Series pipes of this age and condition are collector's items and quite hard to come across. This one can be a nice collectors piece or be smoked with great pleasure. A nice pipe.
