For auction is one Baluch War Rug from Afghanistan . This rug was woven by theMaliki Tribe in Herat province. (see Afghanistan map map photo below and the blue highlighted area of Herat province). The rug has a wool pile & silk foundation and measures approx. 43" X 64". The weave is unusually nice for an Afghan war rug- it has a clear design. The pile has been clipped low. The Maliki are concentrated in Kohsan, Gulran, Rabat Singi and Karokh districts of Herat province. They speak Dari (persian) and make up only a small percentage of the 1Mil+ population of Herat province. The Maliki have two groups making common commercial items in Herat- one family that makes very high quality commercial Kilims and one that makes fairly commercial but top quality bags. Their pile weavings are few and their war rugs
