This auction is for an original Uncatalogued Lionel 23002 Operating Rollerbase and Cover in Mint (C10) Unused condition with its original shipping box, instructions and wiring. The base and cover were manufactured in 1992 and shipped direct from the factory to Madison Hardware in Detroit, Michigan. The cover is made from a clear, highly durable resin that resists yellowing and scratching over time. Unfortunately, the resin used by Lionel was susceptible to tiny stress cracks in small areas along the edges of the cover but it's barely noticeable. This attractively finished oak base with metal Lionel logo insert and brass track was originally designed to operate a Lionel 18005 NYC 4-6-4 "5340" Hudson 700E steam locomotive w/tender while holding it steady with the use of rollers. As power is applied to the base, the wheels of the locomotive turn on the base's rollers. Each wheel aligns with a corresponding roller built right into the track. Hence the need for different roller bases to accommodate the different wheel configurations of Lionel's locomotives. As long as your locomotive has the same wheel configuration as the piece it was designed to operate, yours will work too! Please be sure to view my additional Lionel auctions on eBay. Buyers are asked for their patience as items will be shipped from their location in Sacramento, Ca. read more
