1993 Gold Bullion 4 Coin American Eagle US Mint Set Proof The American Eagle Gold Proof Coins are collector versions of the official United States Mint American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins and are available in limited mintages in four sizes – one ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce, as well as a four-coin set which contains one coin in each size. The 1993 American Eagle Gold Proof Four-Coin Set is packaged in a blue velvet, satin-lined presentation case and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the Director of the United States Mint David J. Ryder . The United States Mint certifies that these coins are proof versions of the once ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce U.S. gold bullion coins. The Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985 authorized the U.S. Mint to strike and issue four denominations off legal tender gold bullion coins , in quantities sufficient to meet public demand: a Fifty Dollar Coin containing one ounce of gold; a Twenty-Five dollar coin containing one-half ounce of gold; a Ten dollar Coin containing one-quarter ounce of gold: and a Five Dollar Coin containing one-tenth ounce of gold. Each coin features a design symbolic of Liberty on the obverse. On the reverse is a design representing a family of eagles, with the male eagle carrying an olive branch and flying above a nest containing a female eagle and hatchlings. The Coins have the inscriptions of the denominations; the weight of the gold content; the year of minting or issuance; the words "Liberty," " In God We Trust ," "United States of America," and " E Pluribus Unum "; and a reeded edge, as stipulated by law.
