ATTENTION: Please read this description carefully and email me with any questions before Bidding. Remember to check this listing during the auction for any addendums I may add. This magnificent and very scarce four handle jar was most likely produced in the 1870s or 80s by the Cantagalli firm.At this time, which coincides roughly with the Aesthetic Movement, t was an awakening of interest in Islamic Arts in England, Europe andAmerica. This monumental jar remains faithful to the aesthetics of early Spanish-Moorish luster ware while brilliantly reinterpreting and revitalizing them. The luster is a deep golden burnt orange with pink and blue iridescence highlights.Entirely hand potted and constructed as well has hand painted with craftsmanshipthat emulates and rivals the original Hispano-Moorish examples. When I found it, it had been mounted as a lamp. Judging from the character of the fixtures, this probably took place in the earlier decades of the 20 th century...perhaps the 1920s when t was a vogue for Spanish inspired Architecture and furnishings in America. I have carefully dismantled these and saved them should the buyer want to remount the jar. I have included a photo of the jar as lamp in my listing. In all over excellent condition with minor old glaze loss on the highpointsof the handles and several spots on the flat top of the rim (see photos).Old aged chip to the outer foot rim (see photo).A small hole was drilled in the base when it was converted into a lamp.Signed with the Cantagalli Rooster mark.12" tall by 13 &½" across the handles. 8" diameter top rim and 12" greatest diameter body.My very reasonable reserve is set to protect my investment. The identification and dating of Antiques and Decorative Arts is at times a more or less subjective endeavor. For a variety of reasons, one 'expert's' results can differ from another's. My descriptions are based on my researches and experience. The time to question these, is before bidding, not after. I go to great lengths to be as accurate as possible and to provide enough photographs to allow the buyer to exercise their own judgment. However, I cannot be responsible for differing opinions, when brought into play after the close of an auction. If you remain uneasy about an item I am listing, even after contacting me, the decision to bid will be your responsibility. I have regretfully had to 'draw this line', due to a rash of disreputable deadbeat buyers, who have attempted to back out of their purchase commitment, by interposing the 'opinion' of a non-substantiated third party. This despite the fact that the object was accurately represented and well photographed.PLEASE NOTE: Unless it's absolutely unnecessary, ALL of my items are shipped double boxed, with sufficient buffer/packing room all around in each box. I am a meticulous packer, taking time and trouble to try and insure that the item arrives undamaged. I do not charge for materials or handling. However, my scales is not calibrated to the Post Office scales, and the difference of an ounce can alter the cost of shipping by $1 or more, up or down (the price changes at the first ounce over the even pound weight). I do my best to be as accurate as possible when calculating shipping, but cannot be responsible for any discrepancy between my scales and that of the Post Office.
