I have never had so many 'watchers' on an item in my store - you're clearly interested in the piece - make me an offer, you never know what I might accept! The single best example of its kind that I've ever seen - not only because of the condition, which is exceptional, but because of the incredible folk art portrait painting of dogs in the centre of the table. PLEASE NOTE - I'm struggling with a new, very ornery camera - everything looks fuzzy in my pics but rest assured all decoration and the painting is crisp! Circa 1860-1870s. The table top is inlaid with large chunks of mother of pearl, and as you can see, profusely decorated with gold paint throughout. T is of course, some wear to the gold over the piece, some cracks (minor) and crazing to the varnish, two scratches to the image (see my pointing finger)and some scratching and wear to the base, as well as some loss to the lacquer/papier mache on the iron feet. that list sure makes it sound worse than it looks - I hope you can see how spectacular it really is from the photos! T is a little minor chipping to the wood inserts and some very miniscule chipping to the edge of the table top (since the edge curves downward, this really cannot be seen). This is a tilt top table so can be used just for display (fantastic for a corner), or the top can be locked into position and it can be used as a table. It comes apart into three sections - table top, pedestal, foot/base - so that if you just wanted to hang the dogs as a painting it would be very easily done. The portrait of the dogs is one of the best folk art paintings I've seen - so delightful! I'm assuming that's a Dachsund and a West Highland Terrier? I took a black light to this - it doesn't look to me as though t has been any restoration - the entire surface seems to be of an age and the craqueleur is absolutely consistent. This is a large piece - the table top measures 27" x 22" and when tilted into position, the entire table stands 27.5" tall. I've seen similar (though less spectacular piece) in stores price well over $2000, so this is a real opportunity! PLEASE SEE SHIPPING INFORMATION BELOW
