We are pleased to offer for sale an outstanding early American School oil on canvas portrait painting of a dashing man from the estate of the historic Burden Vanderbilt family.****(We also have a matching pair of portraits of a husband and wife from this same estate. See our eBay store)*****This painting came from the William A.M. Burden estate. We acquired this painting from an estate sale which handled the William A.M. Burden estate in upstate New York. This painting was in storage since 1955 and has never been brought to sale.William A.M. Burden was married to Florence Adele Twombly(1881-1969), the daughter of Florence Adele Vanderbilt Twombly (1854-1952) and Hamilton McKown Twombly (1849-1910)The elder Florence is the sitter in John Singer Sargent's famous 1890 painting "Mrs Hamilton Mckown Twombly"The painting in this sale was part of that family however we are unsure of who the sitter in the portrait is.You can see in our close-up detailed pictures that this painting was certainly done by one of the foremost American portrait artists of the time. The details and crispness in this painting are superior and done by a highly skilled artist. We can only speculate as to the Artist. The painting was professionally lined probably in the early 1950s. It sat in storage since 1955 along with all the other items from the estate according read more
