A n exceptionally attractive and beautifully made antique microscope. All brass construction,the base stand named "Thomas Armstrong & Brothers.Manchester & Liverpool. No.648." This highly respected scientific instrument company had premises in Deansgate,Manchester and Bold Street,Liverpool.Their re putation was such that were granted warrants and contracts to supply to The War Office,The Admiralty,The Board Of Trade,The India Office and The GPO. In mahogany latched case with original lock (no key.) Brass carrying handle to to p. To give an idea of scale the case is about eleven inches tall x seven and a half inches wide x six inches deep.There is a fitted slide drawer to the bottom of the case. In very good o verall condition,some loss of original lacquer finish. Optics are good,wheels rotate smoothly. Gimballed r eflective mirror es with just one lens in a cylindrical brass case.There is a rotating aperture disc below the slide table. I think the instrument may have come with some other accessories which are missing.There are fitted spaces to side/back of case where these would have slotted.
