19th Century Japanese round box, fully hand carved from genuine elephant tusk ivory and scrimshawed on the top, it has a nice patina and great cross-hatching and grain throughout. This box was made in two pieces, a top and a bottom which fit together tightly, the sides are deeply carved with flowers and branches and a criss-cross design and the top has been scrimshawed with birds, flowers and a verse or poem. The box dates to the last quarter of the 19th century circa 1890 and measures 2.75" accross X 1.25" tall X 9" in circumfrence, it weighs 2.5 oz/75 grams and is signed by the maker on the bottom. Its in excellent condition with NO chips, breaks or repairs, it does have some small, tight age cracks on the inside of the lid, these do not go all the way through and dont seem to affect its useability. As with all of my auctions this starts at .99 with NO RESERVE so everyone has a chance and its guaranteed to be as described.
