Although this piece was acquired through a collector in Greenwich , Connecticut ; its provenance is by way of a Spanish Ambassador that passed away in Miami in 1980, and whose family we assisted with the estates sale, at that time. This type of desk is very rare, and is featured on page 357 of Ms. Genevieve Cummins book, ANTIQUE BOXES, INSIDE AND OUT (See the picture posted below). A copy of this book will be provided to the winning bidding.

This writing desk is over 150 years old and the bottom panel and stubby legs are replacements. The piece was refinished and the solid silver hardware was restored in 1980. The desk is 95% original and in perfect working order. The inlays are all natural and are consistant with those used during this period, (Please write me if you need further details on the inlays.). The moldings are of palisandro, (rosewood) and the base wood is Nogal, (walnut).

The desk weighs 26 pounds. Its size is 22 inches wide , 18 inches deep and 11 inches tall . T are numerouse draws that were used for paper, quills, ink and writing papers; it was used as an early 19 th century lap-top! Some of the original ink stains still remain on the writing surface, as these were too deep to remove in 1980, when the desk was restored.
