Another Early 19th Century Antique British Colonial Mahogany Windsor Chair from the Island of Jamaica. However this came from a different Plantation House, the 18th Century Harmony Hall Great House in Trelawny. It was orginally owned for nearly 150 years by the Dewar family, an old British Colonial family of Scottish descent in Jamaica who were a Cadet Branch of the Dewar family of Scotland of Dewar's Scotch Whiskey fame. The Dewars were prominent Merchants in Montego Bay during the Early 19th Century and lived at Richmond Hill Great House in the hills overlooking Montego Bay. They also purchased and owned Harnony Hall Estate, Pantrepant Estate and other sugar plantations in St. James and Trelawny Parishes, Jamaica. In 1951 the Dewar family finally sold Harmony Hall Estate, then a 2,000 acre cattle and coconut plantation in Trelawny, to the 6th Marquess of Northampton, an English nobleman, who had recently purchased Orange Valley Estate, a 3,000 acre cattle and citrus plantation in St. Ann Parish. In 1977 his son, the 7th Marquess of Northampton, inherited the family plantations in Jamaica and shortly after he sold off most of the English and Jamaican antiique furniture that formed the original contents of the 18th Century Harmony Hall Great House. This Early 19th Century Jamaican Windsor Arm Chair originally came from that Sale at Harmony Hall Great House. is a rare chance to buy a distinguished piece of British Colonial History from Jamaica.
