19th CENTURY HAND-PAINTED MYTHOLOGICAL SCENE ON PORCELAIN
A beautiful hand-painted vase in mineral pigments of varied colors depicting several Chinese mythological figures, each respectively riding atop a dragon, a lion, a crane and a donkey, all on a journey on clouds in the sky, perhaps in search of Buddhist scrolls. The painting is finely detailed, with colorful expressions clearly discernible on the faces of the travelers. This 19th century vase, which has been converted to a lamp, is about 13" in height, not counting the metal lamp fixtures or the wood base. Overall, the lamp is about 28.5". Condition is very good, except of course for the hole drilled and hidden by the wood base for the electrical cord, and some vertical rubbing of the white porcelain background (to the viewer's right side of the painting in the photos above).
