Very interesting19 th century cutlass, having more of a cavalry style large hilt which is of gilded brass and bears a name inscribed and a unit or serial number of some sort, original leather and wire intact and all is completely solid. Sword is wearing a massive wide blade of excellent pattern welded Damascus, it measures 28" in length and gets as wide as 1 ¾", no maker's marks to be found, possibly slightly shortened at the tip, but looking and feeling good overall and much capable of serious action. Overall 34" in length, very good condition and a very impressive weapon of better than average quality, most likely shortened on purpose to be used by an infantry soldier or even as a Naval Cutlass, the tip IF reshaped, was definitely done at the period and over a century ago.
