Sankaat is pleased to present for your consideration this very fine 19th century Limoges "Sevres Catherine the Great Service" Cup and Saucer! The Service made by Sevres for Catherine the Great of Russia is one of the most noted and memorable of all dinnerware services every created (probably second. only to the renown Wedgwood Frog Service). Replacements for the Sevres service were ordered by the Imperial Russian family during the late 19th century, through the London retailer Thomas Goode & Co. It was during this time that the interest in this service was revived and when Minton created the official replacement pieces, the set reached a new level of popularity and was copied by French, English and German decorators. This cup and saucer was handpainted exactly like the original Sevres service, and even bears the pseudo Sevres mark with corresponding (and accurate) date and painter marks. The base also bears the D & G Limoges mark. This cup and saucer measures 5.25 inches by 2.25 inches and has no damage and only wear to the gilding (Most notable on the handle). The quality of the painting and detail of the gilding is excellent, most likely decorated at one of the Paris Studios. This cup and saucer would be ideal for the discriminating Cabinet cup and Saucer collector who appreciates the Artistic Quality of Finely Painted Continental Porcelain!
